To Airbnb or Not to Airbnb

True story, on our last trip to Budapest we chose to rent a beautiful Airbnb apartment in the University district. The location was absolutely perfect. It was important for us to be close to restaurants, shopping, museums and the Central Market Hall. The apartment was lovely and the amenities worked.

Now, this is perhaps where the experience for me, would have been better at a hotel – and yes don’t laugh as some of you might begin to roll your eyes but there were 4 flights of stairs to maneuver day and night. These weren’t so bad except when tackling them with very large suitcases. Where was the bellhop when I needed one? It all worked out in the end, I got some much needed exercise and I got a little stronger along the way.

Then came the other experience. This is where I could have really used a concierge. It was on our last day there and it was time to head to our next destination. We needed to call a taxi. No problem, right! Oh but yes, I did not speak Hungarian. I did not know who to call for a cab and I could not pronounce my address. Try this one on for size “Kecskeméti utca in the V. kerület”.

We did enjoy the Airbnb experience. Will we do it again? Maybe. However I do love those extra services provided by hotels and their wonderful staff.
